Lethargy addiction? I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this. Shocked

I picked up a copy of Not Without Hope by Nick Schuyler Saturday afternoon, the guy they pulled off of Marquis Cooper's overturned boat last year. It was pretty grim but interesting to know what those guys really had to deal with out on the water like that. Despite a few hours of frisbee with the girlfriend on Sunday I was still done with it by about 2 am Monday morning, just couldn't put it down. It was worth reading if you are interested in what happened as I was. Amazing to me that this guy could hang on like that 43 hours in the water.

I wanted to learn more about lethargy addiction but I just didn't feel like it.

Even so I'll take Jamarcus over Roethlisberger any day. Is there a bigger dumbass than Ben I don't think so. Sad

More on Walker from the SF Chronicle's guy (and he mentions D Hall -- he was a trade and sign, not just a free agent signing):

Quote:
Javon project ends (update)

As expected, the Raiders finally cut ties with arguably the worst free-agent signing in franchise (maybe even NFL) history when they released wide receiver Javon Walker on Monday, as first reported by ESPN.
Wide receiver Javon Walker, left, isn't Oakland's problem anymore. They also released veteran defensive end Greg Ellis, who tied for the team lead with seven sacks, after one season of production but knee trouble.

The Raiders got nothing worth getting out of Walker since they handed him an eye-opening/head-scratching six-year, $55 million deal two years ago despite his contstant knee problems. He was beaten and robbed in Las Vegas, offered to retire and give back his money in camp, lost for the season after 15 catches with a season-ending ankle injury.

Walker redid his deal to stay with the team last year, forfeiting $22 million of base salary. But, when he had knee surgery out of the country in April without telling the team, he was as good as done, catching no passes last season as a regular on the inactive list. His $2.6 million salary for the 2010 season was guaranteed, so he still gets paid. So that's that.

UPDATE: A Raiders official contends they owe Walker nothing, and that he got out of town with $14 million over two seasons. However, a league source familiar with the restructured deal said the first two years were guaranteed. Whatever the case, that's still a lot of money for nothing.

Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly is the last big-money signing standing from the 2008 offseason that has seen DeAngelo Hall, Kwame Harris and Gibril Wilson go by the wayside.

Someone else went to the Travis Henry school of fathering:

Yeah, he's getting up there. I totally understand the idea of wanting to enjoy your youth and the single life. I know I had my fun as a bachelor hanging out in bars. But, what I just don't understand is why Ben, who has a gozillion dollars, insists on hanging out at college bars instead of going to bars and restaurants where they are used to a rich and famous clientele. No, that won't prevent all of these problems, but it at least keeps out some people.

First the motorcycle, then the story of him skipping out on his restaurant tabs, then the civil trial over the alleged rape in Tahoe and now this.

It will be interesting to see if the Commish takes any action on this.

True, but neither has Fargas. However, Bush and DMC are younger and more versatile so I would take my chances on them. Remember, Fargas might be a good between the tackles runner, but he offers very little else. No receiving, passing, blocking, and he can't stay healthy.

True but this is akin to getting a DUI and then going out and driving drunk again. Maybe Michael Jackson didn't molest any children but he certainly put himself in a position to be scrutinized by taking naps with children. Ben has a civil suit pending and he is going into roped-off rooms drunk with college girls he doesn't even know? How stupid can this guy be its like he learned nothing from that whole fiasco in Las Vegas. Its hard to give him the benefit of the doubt after this.

Yeah, but he didn't get the DUI equivalent here. From his incident in Tahoe, there are no criminal charges pending - just a civil one which quite frankly anyone who sleeps with a rich person could do to extort money. I see your point, but all I am saying is that he certainly has a right to enjoy his life and his money, but why not be a bit more picky about the places he hangs out at? He's not the only athlete that goes out at night, yet his name keeps coming up. I don't know the place he was at this last time out, but it hardly seemed like a place where big names go. Why not go out to places that know how to handle celebrities?

I do agree, however, that there is a pattern of "well-duh" moments that has to make him think. The motorcycle accident where his coach told him to wear a helmet (and he didn't), the Tahoe incident (yeah, nothing bad could happen when a rich athlete has sex with a stranger), this most recent incident and the word that he skips out on restaurant tabs. Duh!

LMAO!

---On a personal note, I suffer with Chronic Fatigue (CFIDS) among other things, which is a very difficult situation, but it's just a label really. The actual cause is not well understood. Still, it does lead one to understand that others are in the same boat and I'm not just crazy. So I would say that even fuzzy diagnoses can be of value in trying to manage something like this.

But this idea that anything that rules your choice and behavior is some kind of addiction is just wrong-headed in my opinion. And I have been around the block with this type of thing believe me. It ain't an addiction unless there is a physiologically addictive mechanism. You can talk about the term addiction used to describe a recurring compulsion, and it would and is technically correct. But it's mixing two very different experiences and situations in my opinion.

He's either Chronically fatigued, (which is not unheard-of for other world class athletes have been btw) or depressed or what-ever else. But Addicted? Still, if the guy finds some relief and makes a positive change, then good for him on several levels, personally and professionally. What ever terminology gets him happiness and professional productivity.

I just wish the concept of addiction was more appropriately used.

Yep, like Tiger the "sex addict". Someone asked one of Tiger's mistresses if she thought he was a sex addict. She just laughed and said soemthing like "A sex addict? No, he's just a pig!" Smile

Yeah, I'm going to miss Fargas. He was a better blocker than either of the remaining RBs on the roster and he ran with reckless abandon. It's a shame to see us piss off yet another player who has done nothing but conduct himself with class on the field and off.

Incidentally, Gradkowski was on the radio just now. Had a lot of positive things to say about Cable in comparison to Gruden.

In the file of strange things happen every day. They fail to cover the fact that he is a crappy pass blocker and led the league in penalties the last few years. Penciled in at RT now are Pears or Barnes, unless we sign a FA or draft a tackle:

Quote:
An expensive steak dinner he couldn't finish and an offer he couldn't refuse were enough to convince veteran offensive tackle Cornell Green to sign with the Buffalo Bills. A night after being wined and dined by the Bills, Green signed a three-year contract on Monday, the team's first addition three days into the NFL's free agency period.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Green said he's been told he'll be the team's new starting right tackle, taking over the position after Brad Butler retired last month. Green's a 10-year NFL veteran, who spent the past three seasons as the Oakland Raiders starting right tackle. Financial terms were not available. "I'm glad to have an opportunity to play over here. There's a proud history of tradition here," said Green during a teleconference call shortly after signing his contract. "I had opportunities to visit a couple of more teams, but at the end of the day, man, Buffalo made me feel real comfortable."

Green then joked about the steak he couldn't finish during a fancy dinner he had with team officials at a Buffalo steakhouse shortly after he arrived in town on Sunday. "I couldn't finish it. I tried, man," Green said. "They had so many appetizers and all the other stuff, at the end of the day, that steak was putting me over the top."

Green's signing doesn't put the Bills over the top. But it's considered a start for a team under a new regime - featuring rookie general manager Buddy Nix and new coach Chan Gailey - that addressed an immediate need on a unit that was both young and riddled with injuries last season. "Obviously, we wanted to address the tackle position either in free agency or the draft or both," said Gailey, who takes over after Dick Jauron was fired in November. "It was great to find a quality player like Cornell Green in free agency that fit our team."

Green has 46 starts in 89 career games, and immediately becomes the Bills senior offensive lineman. He entered the NFL in 1999 as an undrafted rookie free agent with Atlanta. He eventually spent two seasons on the New York Jets roster, and played for Tampa Bay and Denver. The Bills line is still unsettled. Starting right guard Eric Wood is recuperating after breaking his leg last season, while starting left tackle Demetrius Bell is recovering from a knee injury

In his conversations with Gailey, Green said the coach emphasized the importance of having a running attack. "I love to run block," Green said. "We're just a couple of pieces away from being a playoff team. So hopefully, I can just come in and be a part of that puzzle." Buffalo is coming off a 6-10 finish, and has gone 10 seasons without making the playoffs.

Green said he has put aside a run-in with the law he had a year ago, when he was arrested on a domestic violence charge in Florida. Tampa police said Green became violent during an argument with Teriyonal Ebony Flowers, the mother of his two children. He was accused of slamming Flowers into a wall and striking her arm with an aluminum mop handle. The status of the case is unclear. Green said he is still dating Flowers and plans to bring her and his two children to live with him in Buffalo.

A laugh for tonight -- from a mock draft:

Quote:
8. Oakland Raiders: OT Bruce Campbell, Maryland -- The Raiders point in this direction because of their obvious over-interest in measurables, and an apparent lack of facilities in which they can watch actual game tape of college players. Al Davis signs off on the pick because he's a big fan of the "Evil Dead" movies.
